Receive
Your private address starts with void. Share it to receive SOL straight into your private balance; it never appears on the chain.
Every vault has one private address. It starts with void, and anyone with Voidcash can send SOL to it. What they
send lands in your private balance as a new note.
Your address
The address is on the home screen under Your private address (on a desktop, in the Receive privately card). Press Copy to copy it.
It holds two public keys and a checksum:
- the owner key that the new note is bound to, so that only your spending key can spend it;
- the viewing public key that the note's contents are encrypted to, so that only your vault can read them.
The address is derived from your vault, so it never changes: restoring the vault on another device gives the same address. You can share it as often as you like.
The checksum catches typos. The app refuses to send to a string that does not decode as a Voidcash address, and says That is not a Voidcash address.
Sharing it
Send the address to whoever will pay you, the way you would share any account number. Having it lets someone do one thing: send you SOL. It does not show your balance, your notes or your activity, and it cannot spend anything.
Your address never appears on the chain. A send to you publishes a commitment (a hash of the amount, your owner key and a random value) and a ciphertext under a one-time key. Neither shows the address, and two sends to the same address do not look related.
What the sender sees
| The sender knows | The sender cannot see |
|---|---|
Your void address | Your balance or your other notes |
| The amount they sent, and the relayer fee they paid | Whether or when you spend the note they sent |
| The transaction, in their own activity list | Anything you do afterwards |
The sender cannot tell when you spend their note: spending publishes a nullifier that only your spending key can compute. And the note does not say who sent it, so tell the recipient if they need to know it was you.
How incoming notes are found
Nobody tells your vault that a note has arrived. It finds it:
- Every 15 seconds while the vault is unlocked, the app downloads the new notes the indexer has seen, every one of them, not only yours.
- It tries your viewing key on each note's ciphertext. Only the notes encrypted to you open.
- For each one that opens, it checks that the amount and the random value give back the note's public commitment, and ignores any that do not.
- It adds the notes that are not yet spent to your balance.
You do not need to be online when someone pays you. The note is on the chain; your vault finds it at the next sync, on any device where you unlock it.
Notes you receive show in your balance and your note count. They do not get an entry in the activity list, which records only what you did from this browser.
See Balance and notes for how the balance is computed.
