Get started
Create a vault in your browser, save its recovery key, and unlock it with your passphrase. No account, no email, no wallet signature.
Your private balance lives in a vault: a random secret created in your browser, from which every key you use is derived. You need no account and no email, and your Solana wallet plays no part in it. Creating one takes a passphrase and a minute to write down the recovery key.
What a vault is
| Part | What it is | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| The root | 32 random bytes, generated by your browser | Sealed with your passphrase in this browser's storage; in memory only while the vault is unlocked |
| Spending key | Derived from the root. Proves that you own a note when you spend it. | Never stored; derived again at each unlock |
| Viewing key | Derived from the root. Opens the notes sent to you; it cannot spend. | Never stored; derived again at each unlock |
| Recovery key | The root itself, written as text with a checksum | Wherever you write it down. The app shows it once. |
| Passphrase | Unlocks the vault in this browser only | Your memory |
Nothing comes from your wallet, so a signature you give a site with your wallet can never reveal or spend your notes. See Recovery for what the passphrase and the recovery key each protect.
Create a vault
Choose a passphrase
Open the app and stay on Create a vault. Type a passphrase of at least 10 characters, and type it again. Press Create vault.
The passphrase unlocks the vault in this browser only. The app seals the root with it (PBKDF2-SHA256 with 600,000 rounds, then AES-256-GCM) and keeps only the sealed copy.
Save your recovery key
The app shows your recovery key once. Copy it or write it down, somewhere safe and offline. It restores your private balance on any device, and anyone who has it can spend it.
Tick I wrote it down somewhere safe and offline, then press Open my vault. The button stays disabled until you tick the box.
Open your vault
The app opens on your private balance, at zero, and starts syncing with the pool. Your private address, which starts
with void, is on the home screen. Next, shield some SOL.
The recovery key is shown once, and nobody can show it again or recover it for you, including the Voidcash team. Anyone who has it can spend your private balance.
Restore a vault
Use this on a new device or browser, or after removing the vault from this one.
- Open the app and choose Restore.
- Paste your recovery key.
- Choose a passphrase for this browser, at least 10 characters. It can differ from the one you used before.
- Press Restore vault.
The app opens the same vault, with the same void address. It finds your notes again from the chain, so your balance
comes back after the first sync. The activity list does not: it is kept in the browser where you made each
transaction.
The recovery key carries a checksum. If you mistype it, the app says bad checksum: check for a typo and restores nothing.
Unlock
Each time you open the app in a browser that holds a vault, it asks for the passphrase. Type it and press Unlock. A wrong passphrase gives wrong passphrase, and nothing else changes.
Reloading or closing the tab locks the vault again, and so does Lock vault (the lock icon on a phone). The keys are then dropped from memory until the next unlock.
Remove from this browser
On the unlock screen, Remove from this browser deletes the sealed vault and the activity list kept here. Your notes stay on the chain, untouched: restore the vault with the recovery key to see them again. Without the recovery key, a removed vault cannot be restored.
