Private address
A link anyone can pay you with, which does not say who you are. Payers use HYPE from their wallet or their private balance; you move the payments into your balance.
Your private address is a link you can share anywhere: in a bio, a post, an invoice. Anyone can pay you with it, and neither they nor the chain learn who you are. It takes HYPE only: tokens such as VOID are sent to your registered address instead (see Send a token).

The keys you registered are public and tied to your address, so a link carrying them would name you. Your private address carries other keys instead: a second identity that your app derives from the same activation signature, with its own nullifier and viewing keys and the same wallet key. Nothing on the chain relates it to your address or to your registered keys.
A payment to it creates a note owned by those keys. Your app finds these notes along with your own, keeps them apart from your balance, and lets you move them in. Spending them needs a Spend signature from your wallet, as for every note, so the activation signature alone cannot move them.
The keys sit after the #, which browsers never send to a server. The link ends with a checksum: a link that was cut
or changed is refused, so nothing can be paid to keys nobody holds.
Share your private address
Once privacy is on, the wallet shows a Private address card with Copy link, Share (where the device has
it) and QR code. Next to the title is a fingerprint, such as VC·4F2A·91C0. The payment page shows the same
fingerprint, so a payer can check with you that the link is yours.
Your private address never changes for your wallet. You can share it as many times as you like, and those who pay it cannot see each other.
Pay a private address
Opening the link shows the payment page, Pay privately, with the fingerprint. The payer picks one of two ways.
| HYPE in your wallet | Private balance | |
|---|---|---|
| What the payer needs | A connected wallet with HYPE | Privacy turned on: one signature (twice while their address has no registered key), no registration |
| What happens | The HYPE is shielded from their wallet straight into your note | A private transfer from their notes into your note |
| What the chain shows | Their address and the amount, as a shield. Not whom it pays. | A private transaction: neither of you, nor the amount |
| What the payer pays | No fee; the gas of the transaction, from their wallet | No fee; the gas, from their notes |
After paying, the page says Paid and shows the transaction. A payer who paid from their private balance sees a Sent entry in their history, To a private address. It does not name you: the app records only a stand-in address computed from the link's keys, which matches no account.
Paying with HYPE from a wallet is a shield, so it stops while the vault's guardian has paused new deposits.
Collect your payments
Payments wait at your private address, apart from your balance:
- the Private address card shows how much HYPE is waiting, and your history shows each payment as Paid to your private address, with Paid with public HYPE or Paid privately;
- press Move to balance to bring them in. It is one private transaction, signed by your wallet, which spends up to two payments (the largest) and pays the gas from them. With more than two waiting, press it again.
Once moved, the HYPE is in your balance like any other note, and your history shows Moved to your balance.
What each side sees
| Who | Sees |
|---|---|
| You | Every payment to your private address, its amount and how it was paid. Not who paid privately. A payment with HYPE from a wallet shows the payer's address on the chain. |
| A payer | Their own payment. Not who you are, and not what anyone else paid you. |
| Everyone else | The payments made with HYPE from a wallet, with the payer and the amount, but not whom they pay. Nothing of the private ones. Your collections are private transactions. |
Keep it safe
- Check the fingerprint when it matters. Someone who can change the link you share, for example in a message or on a web page they control, could put their own private address in its place.
- The link is not a secret. It lets people pay you, nothing more: it cannot move your notes or show your balance.
- Small payments cost gas to collect. Each collection spends at most two payments and pays the gas from them. When what waits is less than the gas, the app stops with "What waits at your private address is less than the gas to collect it."
- There is no proof of payment for a payment to a private address. A payer who needs one can send to your registered address instead (see Proving a payment).
What can go wrong
| Message or symptom | What it means |
|---|---|
| This is not a complete link | The link was cut or changed, and its checksum failed. Nothing was paid. Open it exactly as it was sent. |
| "Nothing is waiting at your private address." | There is nothing to collect. |
| "What waits at your private address is less than the gas to collect it." | Wait for more payments before collecting. |
| "Not enough private balance for this amount plus the network gas." | The payer's notes do not cover the amount and the gas. |
Payment links
Pay anyone with a link, even someone who has never used voidcash. Whoever opens it claims the HYPE, privately or to any address, without HYPE of their own.
Unshield
Take HYPE or a token out of your private balance to any address, as ordinary public funds. An exit pays a 1% fee, and a large one waits 24 hours.
